Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the opening session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2018 on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian PM in two decades to join the world’s top business leaders in the Swiss resort town of Davos.Making his debut at the WEF a year after Chinese president Xi Jinping, Modi’s speech is expected to hard-sell the idea that India’s has arrived and the country is on a sustained path of big-ticket reforms. Fadnavis made the announcement from Davos.“It was amazing to know about the next @wef Centre of Fourth Industrial Revolution being proposed at Mumbai! This centre would be about science & technology based policies for the benefit of society creating a global hub of expertise, knowledge sharing and collaboration with special focus on robotics, artificial intelligence, application of technology like drones for agriculture,” the chief minister tweeted.As per the WEF website, one such centre is in San Fransisco. (PTI)Huge appetite for further global investments in India: There is a huge appetite for continuous surge in foreign investments in India with no comparable opportunity available worldwide, Union minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday, even as he saw India’s role at international platforms growing into a leader being looked into for solving problems of a ‘fractured world’.“Going forward, India’s role in the world economy, in the social tensions and in the fight against terrorism and climate change is only going to grow,” Goyal told PTI in an interview here on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal popularity and personal acceptability across the world is huge and he has emerged as the leader whom all world leaders look up for respect for leadership for tackling the problems that the world faces.What Modi’s debut at Davos before an election year meansWith Modi heading into an election year in 2019, businesses are looking for assurances that he will carry on with structural reforms, such as opening up the banking sector to achieve double-digit growth rates.India means business: Modi tells global CEOsPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told top CEOs in Davos that India means business and presents exciting opportunity for the global businesses. Under the tagline of “India means business”, the roundtable was attended by 40 CEOs of global companies and 20 from India.After the meeting, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted about Modi narrating India’s growth story and presenting exciting opportunities for global business in India at Davos.
